Day 11: Nothing II

Did nothing all day. Probably going to do nothing tomorrow as well.

I'm so tired, yet I did absolutely nothing...

Day 10: "Doctor Who: Series 6" Reviews (Part 2)

THE IMPOSSIBLE ASTRONAUT:

So, the Doctor invites Amy, Rory, and River Song to Utah to spend a day with him after months of inactivity, when a mysterious astronaut kills the Doctor in the middle of his regeneration cycle. Fortunately, the Doctor was kind enough to invite his past self into the fray and sends them on a journey with the words "Canton Everett Delaware III". This eventually leads them to a shack in Florida, where a little girl's cry for help from a "spaceman" was heard, and where they discover a new alien foe they must fight against.

I don't really have much to say about this episode at this point except about the Silence: they're freaking creepy. The way that makes people forget about them after looking away from the alien creature is fascinating and adds a level of suspense to the story. For example, you could look over to your left and see ten or fifteen Silences (?) marching closer and closer to you, but when you turn around, you would have no idea you would be attacked by some otherworldly being with no mouth. This is almost to the level of scary that the Weeping Angels have with their characteristics.

I'm also interested in finding out who the child is and why she's in the spaceman costume. There's also this build-up with why the Doctor was killed, more about River Song, the Silence, and how Amy being pregnant, apparently, not including the mystery of the little girl and the "spaceman". Let's see if some of these questions are answered in "Day of the Moon"!

DAY OF THE MOON:

Umm... okay...
Apparently, Amy's on the run in the very beginning of this episode from Canton Everett Delaware III...
And so is River Song, who just jumped off a building in a suicidal escape...
And so is Rory...
who just died again (big shock)
And the Doctor's been arrested and is being held in Area 51...

WHY IS CANTON BEING SUCH A DICK???!!!

Oh, so it was a plan all long...
Umm... okay...

I did like the creepiness and tension of the scenes in the orphanage. The blood writings on the wall and the fact that it had long been abandoned added to the creepiness factor that was brought in by the Silence. I also thought that it was clever to add the video footage of the wounded Silence into the moon-landing broadcast. I liked the way it resolved all of the plot points that needed to be solved in the episode, including the added mystery of the woman in the doorway.

Wait.. the little girl's a TIME LORD???!!!

WILL ANYTHING BE ANSWERED IN THIS DAMN SERIES??!!

Day 9: "Doctor Who: Series 6" Reviews (Part 1)

On Christmas, I was given the sixth season of Doctor Who. As any other Whovian would do, I watched the entire series in less than a week.

Honestly, I have no idea what really happened in Series 6...
I mean, I watched it, I remember (some) of the episodes, but as an overall plot structure...

I have no idea what happened.

With this reminder, I've decided to take some time out of my life to re-watch Series 6 and to share my thoughts/opinions on each episode I revisit. This will take a while because a. I am not the type of Whovian who can watch entire seasons in one day, more like 1 1/3 disk a day/night, b. I need sleep, and c. that pesky life of mine has other plans than sitting on the couch, munching on popcorn while going through a Doctor Who binge (as lovely as that sounds).

So, as the old saying goes, allons-y! ;)

"DOCTOR WHO: SERIES 6" REVIEWS:

A CHRISTMAS CAROL:

Honestly, there's nothing negative I can say about this episode. Really. This is one of the best (if not the best) Doctor Who episodes in, like, forever. I was immediately captured by how the world of Sardicktown functioned, where the Sardick family was in control of everything and had always been on top since the founding of the town while the rest of Sardicktown had to suffer in poverty. I was drawn to the steampunk design of Sardicktown, how it was vaguely Dickensian/Victorian, but had all this technology that helped to define it as a settlement in the future. I loved the characters and their charismatic connections between each other (with Kazran and Abigail's connection and Kazran and the Doctor's connection the strongest, mainly because they're really the only main focuses in the entire episode). I loved how the main focus character of the episode, the Scrooge of this Doctor Who remake named Kazran Sardick, had a genuine heart that was clouded by fear, regret, and anger over what his life had been built up to (and eventual heartache), and how that made him a more complex and more likable character than when we're first introduced to him.

Another thing that I like about this episode is how this shows who the Doctor really is: he is just someone who will do anything and everything to help make someone's life better. He even adds his own quirkiness and positive energy to help make things better, while sometimes he can take some time to just sit, wait, and take things in a serious tone. This episode shows the Doctor (in this case, Eleven) in his true nature, which makes all the difference.

The last thing that I'm going to comment on is the thing that sold this episode for me: the flying fish. When I saw them clustered around the light post in the streets, I was entranced. By the time we saw them "swimming" around in the higher altitudes of the sky, I was hooked. This is the kind of thing that I could only dream about in the most peaceful, vivid, and serene of dreams and this made the whole episode even more magical for me.

Actually, that's what I would describe "A Christmas Carol" as: a wonderful, passionate, magical Christmas dream. Everything about it was wonderful, passionate, and magical: the characters, the story, the adaptation, the music, the world-building, the character-development, the flying fish, EVERYTHING. I will never get tired of watching this episode over and over and over again...

Although, I do have some questions:
  1. Why is Kazran the only one with the exotic name? Everyone else in Sardicktown has a normal name: Abigail, Isabella, even his own father was named Elliot...
  2. Why did the portrait on the wall shift from Elliot Sardick to Abigail, then back to Sardick Sr. during Kazran's process of "remembering"? I know it was to show how important Abigail was in his life and built up the hope that she would live with him until they grew old together and died, but was this necessary in the grand scheme of things? Wouldn't the process of Time have just kept the portrait of Elliot Sardick since Abigail wasn't well enough to live for very long?

Anyway, I loved this one, and I hope I'll continue to love it more in the future.

That's all I can get to tonight, due to time/energy losses. There will be more to come, don't worry.
Goodnight, my darling pumpkins.

Day 8: Oh God, Not Another One...

Oh dear God, not another one...

I find myself loving and yet hating this ship as deemed by Peter Jackson. The reason/s that I like this shipping is because

a. I like to see good things come to Kili, the cutest Dwarf of the entire company/race of peoples, and
b. I actually think they make a cute pairing. They have enough charisma between the two of them to create a cute relationship that will become the new Franchise Couple of 2014 (examples of effective Franchise Couples: Ron and Hermione, Ten and Rose, Amy and Rory, Sherlock and Jawn, Bella and Edward (if you like the Twilight saga), etc.).

Yet, this is also why I'm hating this shipping decision. You see, like many Anglophile Nerds of the Internet, I have suffered under the emotional abuses that come with watching an addictive, nerdy TV series, mainly thanks to Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. Those who are familiar with their works are familiar with a certain formula. Hopefully, PJ hasn't caught on to this formula, because I really don't want this Thanksgiving to be filled with more anguish than I have already in terms of canon shippings.

Here's how this shipping process would look like if PJ adopted this emotional-abuser formula (<clears throat> shipping formula):

THE 21ST CENTURY "NERDY MEDIA" SHIPPING FORMULA AS APPLIED TO "THE HOBBIT":
  1. The two halves meet in unusual circumstances (in Elven prison)
  2. Conversations ensue between the two halves, creating a deeper connection of amity and friendship (the small talk about Kili's promise stone and the Elven holiday of the stars or something)
  3. Something dramatic/adventurous happens where one of the two helps the other out/the two do something together, where their connection with each other deepens
(Kili gets injured by getting shot in the leg while trying to open the floodgates of the Elf Castle-Place, temporarily disabling him from fending himself against an approaching Orc; Tauriel helps him not get killed by shooting down plenty of Orc soldiers that are trying to kill him, letting him go free with his companions)
  4. Another dramatic/adventurous moment happens where something happens so there is an imminent threat of a point of no return, where there is no escape from the inevitable, so one of the two halves proclaims their love for the other, and the connection between the two deepens into undying love
(the Morgul Blade poison starts killing Kili, at which point Tauriel catches up to the remaining company in Laketown, fends off some Orcs, and uses the Kingsfoil to cure Kili at the last minute; Kili realizes that Tauriel is the one girl for him when he goes through the same vision that Frodo did when Arwen came to help in Fellowship of the Ring, and indirectly asks if she loves him as much as he loves her)

Then comes the next steps in this formula where I'm hoping that PJ hasn't already decided on accomplishing in the Tauriel/Kili ship:

  5. A call for aid/battle comes where the two halves are split and duke it out against the evil forces/antagonist
(the battle of Laketown, Smaug, and Azog the Defiler)
  6. One of the two halves gets killed in a slow, painful death, in which the other half rushes to the other's side as they say a couple of last words as they die, breaking the hearts of the viewing audience
(this will probably be Tauriel who gets the axe, so Kili will have to sob over her dead body as the battle rages around them)
  7. There will be a heavy emphasis over the loss, such as extended moping, funeral sessions that take forever, general sadness, etc.
(if this formula should take effect, I would like to see a funeral/honor session for Tauriel in the elven fashion on how she was a great warrior and elf, etc.)
  8. The surviving half of the ship will be now forever sullen over the death of the significant other, leaving the audience with a/another gaping hole of sadness of losing another character over this goddamn formula
(pretty self explanatory. I will become severely depressed if I'm forced to see a harsh, sad, unforgiving Kili by the time There and Back Again is over)

So...
please, Peter Jackson,
for the love of God,
PLEASE don't go through with this! You didn't do this with the original LOTR trilogy, and that turned out great! Please, I am begging you, literally groveling on my knees, DO NOT GO WITH THIS FORMULA!

I don't know how much my heart can take...

Wait...

Wait...

Kili's promise stone...

There's no real reason for why it was brought onscreen except for some small talk, right?...

Right???

.........

...............................

...

Oh my God...

PETER JACKSON, YOU SON OF A BITCH!!!!!!!!! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU, PHILLIPA BOYENS, AND FRAN WALSH FOR TAKING SUCH A F***ING EMOTIONAL SHORTCUT IN WRITING!!!

MOFFAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GATISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what? It's okay. I didn't really need a heart anyway. Who needs strong, positive emotions?
<violently sobs in the corner>

Day 7: meh

So, today I have learned that I'm going to have to be dragged through 8th-9th grade Algebra again to make sure I fulfill my graduation requirements...

I AM NOT SPIRITUALLY/MENTALLY ABLE TO DO THIS. I HAVE ALREADY DONE THAT AND HAVE MASTERED ITS ART OF STUPIDITY THAT IS CALLED ADVANCED MATHEMATICS. MY BRAIN CAN'T (AND WON'T) HANDLE THAT! IT'S LITERALLY GOING TO BE SO EASY THAT IT WILL BE MENTALLY HARD TO ACCOMPLISH!

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, at least it's only on Tuesdays and Thursdays....

And I don't have to cram a whole tome of Biology into my memory by Thursday...
What I'm trying to say is that the important test has been rescheduled until next month, which means I can sleep easier and my back will be sighing with relief from not carrying an extra 10 pounds (at least) in my already-weighty backpack.

The highest of "yay!"s all around!

On another note, I've got to stop writing these posts at 11 PM! Goddamn procrastination strikes again. >:(

Day 6: Long Day -_-

Yup...
Today's been fun. After all, I
  • Couldn't find a parking spot in the Park and Ride
  • Missed my first bus
  • Miraculously not-late to my first class of the winter quarter
  • Realizing how much work I have in each class
  • Realizing that I still had to
    • Read/review an entire tome of a Biology textbook by Thursday
    • Replenish my bus card
    • Get even more supplies for classes (which would mean I'd have to wait in a line about 15 minutes wait-time)
    • Get back some binders from previous classes

So, yeah. Not too great emotionally. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better...

Day 5: HEADCANON TIME!!!

Okay...

So I've been having a couple of thoughts about two completely different fandoms lately, the first one being about Frozen. Here it goes:

Elsa was born with ice powers because her mom was in love with a Winter/Snow God/Spirit. This Winter/Snow God/Spirit is Elsa's true father, while the human father she grew up with was just an "adoptive" father

The second being about MLP. In the latest episode, Rarity was given what was hinted at as the first key that can open the mysterious Box. Also, Dave Polsky hinted at how we may see the character of Coco Pommel again in the future.

Here's my thought:

Coco Pommel is some sort of Agent for the Tree of Harmony. She's no normal pony at all, but a shapeshifting will of good that helps push intended destinies down the right path, maybe a bit in league with Princess Celestia and Princess Luna

Just a thought...

I'll try to post something less sloppy soon...

Day 3: Nothin'

Q: What is the result of doing absolutely nothing, with an addition of having no interest in doing anything or even getting clean?

A: GETTING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING DONE!!!

Oh well. At least I saw Saving Mr. Banks. Which reminds me: GO SEE IT!

Day 2: Impulse Shopping

So...yeah...
I went post-Christmas shopping for myself...
And it the biggest thing I bought was a My Little Pony collectible...

Please don't judge me.

Derpy Vinyl Collectible
That's right. Be jealous...

The Princess of Derp

p.s. Freaking amazing! It's a combo of Frozen and MLP, two of my favorite fandoms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fZGNaBJcx0

Seriously, if you haven't seen Frozen yet, you should go to your nearest theater right now. You won't be disappointed. :)
